I live in a doorway between East Palo Alto and Palo Alto
If you ask me the only difference is the “East” part
If you ask non-residents the difference is EVERYTHING
How could one less syllable make a difference in the
connotation of one’s hometown?
East Palo Alto: the “ghetto” place filled with people with no dreams or aspirations.
The place where violence is in every corner and where gangs are at the top of the hierarchy. Where the funky smell of weed invades every corner of your block.
The place with poor people and hobos seeking warmth and safety.
The murder capital. The place you would not want to be at night.
Palo Alto: the rich, white people place. The place where people become millionaires. Birthplace of success. Clean streets and no violence that I have heard of. Great schools with top level education. Parents with spoiled kids. Healthy families and relationships. Basically paradise.
I have the ability to enter both worlds just by crossing the street
East Palo Alto has enriching programs and events that I love to attend to
Palo Alto with its beautiful nearby parks which are perfect for family barbecues
Honestly, I can say I love both
I am truly blessed to live in the doorway between East Palo Alto and Palo Alto.
